  The idea of wearing beads and charms has been part of many cultures worldwide for thousands of years. Tapping into the unique human spirit and creativity, Trollbeads began in Denmark in 1976, and were the very first charm beads anywhere in the world. In the late 1990's this new and artistic jewellery started entering into the UK. But, what exactly are they?
  
  Created by lise Aggaard, she and her family still own and run the company from Denmark to this day. Trollbeads is an exquisite set of interchangeable jewellery that lets people create their own look. At the heart of this collection are the charm beads themselves. Each Trollbeads charm bead has a special significance, mythical meaning or astrological story behind it. As you collect Trollbeads you can make very own unique necklaces and bracelets by placing the beads into your own design on the special Trollbeads chains and leather jewellery.
  
  Trollbeads beads are beautifully crafted from different materials. Some are made from pearl, silver, gold, amber and precious stones. The most popular material for Trollbeads is stunning glass from Italy – made using a technique called lampwork. They make excellent gifts since they're so unique and each Trollbead has a story to tell – you can give a really personal and significant gift that means something really special. And, once a person is started they can build their own collection – to create jewellery to suit any mood or occasion.
  
  Up until the late 1990's Trollbeads were limited to those that were lucky enough to discover them in Copenhagen. Since then the magic has spread all over the world. They are now sold through specially selected distributors worldwide, and can be found from the UK to Japan. These distributors are part of the Trollbeads family, and are responsible for finding retailers in their country’s that keep the spirit of Trollbeads intact, and make sure that every Trollbeads customer gets great service.

  What’s the link to Trolls?
  
  In traditional Danish folklore a troll is very different to the rest of the world. A troll is a cute little forest creature that steals and hides your things as well as tricking you. The original name of Trollbeads is troldekuger which translates as troll beads or troll pearls.
  
  When the company went international they wanted to keep the translation universal. Trolls are not bad creatures, they are mystical. You can get mischievous trolls for your bracelets and necklaces, the Baby Troll being one of the most popular.
